Moorefield Station, Loudoun County - January 28, 2008 –Loudoun Civic and Transit Center (LCTC)
at Moorefield Station is one of three sites to be considered for a new Government Administrative
Center (GAC). The team has issued the following statement regarding recent developments
surrounding federal funding of the Dulles Rail project.
Like most residents and business owners in Northern Virginia, we would be greatly
disappointed if the federal government chose not to support funding the Metro
Silver Line as currently proposed. However, we believe that the extension of Metro
to Dulles Airport and beyond is inevitable and the current funding issues will be
resolved. Regardless of the ultimate timing of the arrival of Metro to Moorefield
Station, such a decision by the Federal Government will not affect Moorefield
Station’s role in serving as the County’s regional transit hub. Adjacent to our
proposed site for the Government Administrative Center is a bus only access lane
for regional and local bus lines as well as space dedicated for commuter park and
ride lots.
As important as its transit connections, the Loudoun Transit and Civic Center site at
Moorefield Station offers the County over 27 contiguous acres to meet the County’s
current and future space needs and allow for the creation of a Civic Use District that
will offer its employees, citizens and visitors a variety of convenient amenities.
Moorefield Station is also the furthest east of the considered sites, bringing
additional government services closer to where people work and live in Loudoun
today and where growth is planned.
When making a choice on where to locate the Government Administrative Center,
leaders and citizens should not forget that a failure to think long term and
accommodate future growth will lead to a need to repeat this process as government
grows. We truly believe that Moorefield Station is the site which provides
Loudoun’s government and citizens with a Solution for a Century by embracing a
long term view.
